When I wrote this poem a couple of years back, I never thought it would have such a profound impact. So much so, that I was shocked when my poem got featured on naturallyhappyhair.blogspot.com. Because I just never dreamed in a million years that my writing would lead to such a great accomplishment.
What inspired Me To Write This Poem
Unfortunately, in today’s society, many people care too much about looks and opinions of others. Some of us get so caught up with the need to be wanted, that we lose our self-worth. Ultimately hindering our self-esteem and lacking very little confidence within ourselves.
So when I was writing this poem, I wanted to send a message. That beauty comes in all different shapes and sizes. And no one is less beautiful than the next person based solely on their looks. Because at the end of the day, we are all human and deserve equal respect.
Now don’t get me wrong, I understand that being a young person in today’s society can be rough. Especially when you are in school, or you read magazines that strive to promote the ideal standard of beauty. The thing is, the idea of having the perfect body or look is unrealistic. Because no one is perfect, and we all have flaws.
Even if people may have opinions about you or not, it should not be a key factor in your life. Because how you may choose to lose your life is up to you. And should never be focused on what people are going to think of you or does this person like me or not.
I believe when it all boils down to it, people are going to be people. Whether that person is secretly jealous of you or not, life is too short to worry about the little things. So always remember to live your life to the fullest with no regrets. And never be ashamed of how you look because beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
The truth is, true happiness comes from within. If you know you’re self-worth and who you are as an individual, then do not let anyone else tell you otherwise. Because at the end of the day, you must love yourself first before anyone else can love you. As the saying goes, “Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me.” Click here to read more lifestyle posts.
